Hello, and welcome to from french fries to flax seeds. I’m glad you’ve stopped by, and that you want to know more about me! My name is Marianne, I’m 30 years old, and have recently made the big move to change careers. I’ve moved back to childhood home to go back to school to become a Registered Dietitian. I’m really excited to take on this new challenge, as I feel that I’ve finally found the right path to combine my science background with my passion for food, nutrition, and health. I started this blog in September 2008 after I stumbled upon the whole food blogging culture, and felt that it was the perfect way to document this transition in my life, to share my own food creations, products/cookbooks/kitchen gadgets that I love, and to be a part of such a supportive and diverse foodie community! I feel my blog and blogging style has started to evolve since the beginning, and I hope that it continues to do so as I further my education in nutrition and health. Most of all, I hope to bring you something you enjoy!
My Food Philosophy
“Eat food you enjoy. Eat to feel good.”
It’s that simple really. I think everyone should eat foods they enjoy. Just because something is a “super food” doesn’t mean you need to force yourself to eat it. If you don’t like the food, don’t eat it. It also means enjoy those foods that might not be considered healthy. Do you love chocolate cake? Eat it. French fries? Go for it! But here’s where the "Eat to feel good” part comes in. If foods don’t make you feel good, then is it worth eating? If you feel sluggish after eating a ton of fried food, or have an upset stomach after ingesting a bunch of sugary treats, then that’s not where you want to be. To me, the “Eat to feel good” part is where you find your balance between nutrition and pure eating pleasure (and who’s to say the two are even mutually exclusive).
The Food I Eat
I’m pretty inclusive when it comes to foods in my diet. I can’t think of many foods I won’t eat, as long as they are prepared in a way I enjoy. Other than olives – although, I consume olive oil, so maybe that counts? I have no allergies, and no real label for my diet. I guess you could say I’m an “everythingtarian” if you need to go that route. I strive to eat real, wholesome foods whenever possible, and find myself getting more interested in eating in an ethical fashion (including animal products), but I’m not about being perfect. I just might have some chips if I feel like it, or some processed cheese. Again, it’s all about achieving that balance.

This page is still a work in progess – soon to be finished I hope!

Good luck with the new blog!
I love your story. Can’t wait to read more!
What a great story. I wish you the best of luck in pursuing your dream of being an RD. I am seriously considering going back to school to get my RD, however unlike you I didn’t take the many science courses that are necessary so I’ll have quite a few classes to take before I would even be admitted into a program.
Looove the blog n I love your story! FABU <3
Hi there, would you mind telling which camera you use for your blog? the photography is stunning!
Jennifer – the camera I’m currently using is the Canon EOS Rebel (model number DS6041). It’s a digital SLR camera, but it’s an older model than the new ones that Canon has out right now. It’s only 6.0 megapixels, but it still take excellent photos. I love the camera, especially for travelling, but I would like to pick up a good point and shoot as well, because this one can be a bit cumbersome to take around to parties, restaurants, etc.
This is incredible!
I just started blogging and found yours while wandering
